Commemorations this week:
Friday October 25
The Annunciation
The angel Gabriel announces that the love of God for humanity will take shape in the body of the blessed virgin Mary. The letter to the Hebrews announces that humanity has been hallowed “through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Isaiah announces Immanuel, whose name means “God with us.” That God would take on human form, offer his life for ours, and keep company with us our whole life long overshadows any other love. Celebrate the announcement!

Reformation Sunday
Rooted in the past and growing into the future, the church must always be reformed in order to live out the love of Christ in an ever-changing world. We celebrate the good news of God’s grace, that Jesus Christ sets us free every day to do this life-transforming work. Trusting in the freedom given to us in baptism, we pray for the church, that Christians will unite more fully in worship and mission.
Monday, October 28
Simon and Jude (actually Judas, but he's called Jude to better distinguish him from Judas Iscariot) are listed among Jesus’ inner circle of disciples. In today’s gospel, which is set at the last supper, Jude’s question (“How is it that you will reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?”) is in response to what Jesus says in verse 19: “In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live.” The answer to Jude’s question will come in Jesus’ resurrection, the appearances of the risen Christ, and the coming of the Spirit.

Prayer of the Day
Almighty God, gracious Lord, we thank you that your Holy Spirit renews the church in every age. Pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them steadfast in your word, protect and comfort them in times of trial, defend them against all enemies of the gospel, and bestow on the church your saving peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
