Word not Spirit
Jesus protests against human customs being given the weight of divine law, while the essence of God’s law is ignored. True uncleanness comes not from external things, but from the intentions of the human heart. Last week Jesus told us “the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). Now James says God has given us birth by the word of truth. We who were washed in the word when we were born in the font return to it every Sunday to ask God to create in us clean hearts.

TAI'S PANTRY
Thank you to everyone who has and continues to bring in food items for our food pantry. Please check on the food pantry to be sure it stays stocked up.
YARD SALE COMING SOON
Our annual yard sale has been scheduled for the first Saturday in October, October 5. You can start bringing in items for sale this Sunday. They will be kept in the youth room until we need more room. Proceeds from the yard sale go toward our
Thanksgiving food box ministry.
BARBECUE TICKETS AVAILABLE SUNDAY!
Our barbecue benefiting Hands of Hope Clinic has also been scheduled for the first Saturday in October, October 5. Tickets will be available for pre-sale this Sunday. Please take some tickets to sell to friends and neighbors!

We have 5 Sundays this month! Join us on Sunday September 29th for a 5th Sunday potluck.
The Gathering and St. Luke Guys will meet on Friday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Buckner's. The Gathering will then meet at the Joyner's house for their lesson.
