Our food pantry has been getting a lot of use lately! We are seeking donations of the usual items: canned meats like chicken, ham, roast beef, and tuna; mac and cheese;
hearty soups and soup mixes; canned fruit of any kind; breakfast items (such as cereal bars, individual cereal cups, and instant breakfast shake mix).
When possible, try to avoid buying items in glass jars as we have had a few issues with items breaking.
The Gathering and St. Luke Guys will meet at Buckner’s on Friday, May 26, at 11:30 am for lunch. Afterward, both groups will go to the Joyner’s home. The women will do their Bible study and the men will go out on the boat.

Prayer of the Day
Almighty and ever-living God, you hold together all things in heaven and on earth. In your great mercy receive the prayers of all your children, and give to all the world the Spirit of your truth and peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
The Feast of the Ascension
The fortieth day after Easter Sunday, commemorates the Ascension of Christ into heaven, according to Mark 16:19, Luke 24:51, and Acts 1:2.
In the Eastern Church this feast was known as analepsis, the taking up, and also as the episozomene, the salvation—denoting that by ascending into His glory, Christ completed the work of our redemption. The terms used in the West, ascensio and, occasionally, ascensa, signify that Christ was raised up by His own powers. Tradition designates Mount Olivet near Bethany as the place where Christ left the earth. The feast falls on Thursday. It is one of the Ecumenical feasts ranking with the feasts of the Passion, of Easter, and of Pentecost among the most solemn in the calendar. (from The Catholic Encyclopedia)
